Do you know the size of a mustard seed? And yes, it is too small. It’s about 1 to 2 millimetres.
Do you also know the weight of the smallest seed in the world? It comes from the orchids family. This plant grows in the rain forest and it weighs about 1/35,000,000 of an ounce or 0.81micrograms. Too small, isn’t it?
Have you ever held a grain of sand in your hand? The weight of a grain of sand is about 0.011 micrograms. Extremely lightweight weight? Don’t you think so?
All these particles are too small and this is all the faith Jesus said we need.
Mathew 17: 21…He replied,” Because you have so little faith.I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain,’ Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
I asked Google if it is possible to move a mountain. This was Google’s answer, not mine… The answer was ‘certainly’. And in modern times miners do it all the time. It’s just expensive and rather time-consuming.
All you have to do or what miners do is to drill holes. Insert explosives and break up the rock of the mountain a little at a time. Then pick it up with loaders or shovels( large mechanical machinery). And carry the materials off in trucks and deposit it elsewhere.
And you repeat this again and again and again and wallah! The mountain is moved. I guess where there is a will there is a way.
Okay, in modern times it’s possible to move a mountain, maybe. That is according to Google. Especially if it is a must it be moved. But in Jesus times, I think the disciples thought Jesus was mad when he said, faith as small as a mustard seed could move a mountain.
I think what Jesus meant was that, with a little belief in God and his word. Your prayers will be answered.
Believing that God will answer your prayers is important. It will help you to know for sure that God has heard you and he will do as you ask.
It is that small quiet confidence that God is powerful and there is nothing impossible for him to do. The God whom you serve has already heard your prayers. And He is already at work to do what you asked him to do.
Whether you see or don’t see. He is working to answer your prayers.
So the next time you hold one grain of sand in your hand. Tell yourself….God has heard me. And he will answer my prayers.
