I read this quote by Lao Tzu ” Watch your thoughts, they become your words. Watch your words, they become your actions. Watch your actions, they become habit. Watch your habits, they become your character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
Someone once said but I wonder if it’s true. You are who you think you are. Whatever mental picture you have created in your mind about yourself that is who you will be in real life.
I wonder if we add to our mental pictures about ourselves to what God says about us? Who could we become? When we look at the influential people in the Bible who believed in God. They first had to believe that God is powerful. Then they were able to do mighty things as God told them they would do.
David in Psalms 139, praised our powerful God for creating him. He praised God for his power, might and knowing him so well. There are many things in life that David did that required him to believe that God was powerful enough to do them.
I believe it began with a simple thought by David. David believed who he was to God. And that God loved him too much and He would do for David what he said he would do.
I think these basic thoughts were the basis of what David did in his life. All the mighty and powerful things recorded in the Bible that David did. All were because he believed that our powerful God loved him and God could do anything.
Psalms 4:23, Carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source of true life.
David had first to believe that a God he never saw was powerful as He said. Then after believing he was able to have faith to do the mighty things God had told him to do. He believed and then did mighty things.
What do you believe about God? Guard that with all your heart. And you will be able to do what God wills you in your life. I am sure it’s what you asked God for, don’t you?
Hellen Keller once said that a bend in the road is not the end of the road. Change is not easy but it’s also inevitable. Many things in life change from one state to another.
The weather changes from time to time. People move from one place to another. Our personalities and behaviours change from good to bad or from bad to good. Depending on the circumstance a person can change.
In the Bible there is a person who Jesus changed, but not out of own will. Noooo….. he didn’t pray for Jesus to change him. But out of His own mercy, Jesus decided to change him and make him a better person.
He is a common story. While on his way to Damascus to kill Christians. Jesus asked Saul why he was persecuting Him. Jesus talked to him through a bright flash of light. Saul was the only one who could see this bright flash of light. The soldiers could not. They only heard a voice talking and they stood there speechless.
Later Saul’s name changed to Paul. But not only did his name change but also his character. He stopped killing Christians and started preaching the word of God. And he converted many people into becoming Christians. He actually wrote the Pauline Epistles which are the thirteen books written by Paul in the New Testament.
Corinthians 5:17, Anyone who belongs to Christ Jesus is a new person. The past is forgotten and everything is new.
Jesus changed Saul from being a murderer of Christians to a preacher of the word of God. He forgave him his sins and changed him into a better person.
What I like about the story is that Paul didn’t ask Jesus to change him. Jesus knew what Saul could become and what he could do. And He decided to intervene and to change him so that he could have a better life.
Trust in God in your life, he knows you better than you think you do. He knows how much more you can do. And He can intervene to make sure you achieve more. Even if it means changing you even when you didn’t ask Him to. Jesus, in His loving mercy and kindness, he will do it.
If you love hiking or have ever hiked, in a group of people. You know one of the reasons we do this is to build endurance.
When you are climbing to the top of a mountain, there is a point you will get extremely tired. And you may not want to go on. But since you haven’t reached the top of the mountain. You have to keep on going so that you can finish and conquer the mountain.
And this is why it is one of the reasons most team building practises may involve hiking. Even hiking a mountain. To build endurance.
Then what is endurance? You may ask. Endurance is the ability to remain firm under suffering or misfortune. Without yielding though it’s difficult. It’s not giving up in times of difficulties. Hence when you hike, you are able to build your spirit of endurance. This is helpful in helping you to achieve your goals.
Abraham had a difficult choice to make. And he had to endure so as to please God. God told Abraham to give Him his son, Isaac, as a sacrifice on mount Moriah. God had taken a long time to give them a son. And now He wanted him as a sacrifice. The only son Sarah had, was going to be a sacrifice. Abraham definitely had a tough choice to make.
Without telling neither Isaac nor Sarah what he was up to? He took Isaac to the mountain to do what God had told him to do. While they were still on their journey, Isaac questioned his father about the lamb that was to be sacrificed. He hadn’t seen one. There was the wood and knife but there was no lamb.
Abraham told his son,he shouldn’t worry God was going to provide a lamb. When they got to the mountain, Abraham prepared the altar. He placed his son on it ready to offer him. I wonder if he said his last goodbyes to his son.
Anyway, before he could do what God had commanded him to do. God had provided the lamb. And the angel who was sent told him it was a test from God. And because of his obedience. God had blessed him. And he would have more decendants than the stars at night. Or the sand on the beach.
Endurance is all Abraham needed to get his blessing. All the time he was agonizing whether to obey God and sacrifice his only son. God was with him because he was just testing his faith.
When it is hard and you don’t know what to do. Just remember to follow God’s word because the hardship you are facing might be a test from God. At the end of it, there is a reward waiting for you just like Abraham.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Endurance needs strength. Ask Jesus to give you strength to endure your hard times. And when you reach the end you will get your reward.
Galatians 6:9, Let’s not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up.
Have you seen the movie homeless to Havard. It’s about a young girl, Liz Murray. Liz is a young girl born into a very poor family. Her mother is mentally ill and later she dies because of the effects of drug abuse. She is left with her father who is not capable of taking care of her.
For part of her life she is forced to live in the streets with nobody to look out for her. She later decides to go back to school. And with her determination and the courage to be better. She focuses all her energy in school work and she finally gets into Havard university.
She also gets to work with the New York Times, a leading newspaper company. A story with a very sad beginning but with a beautiful ending.
It reminds me of a small two verse story in the Bible about Jabez. Jabez was given this name by his mother because during his birth he caused her a lot of pain.
Maybe also during his life he experienced a lot of heartache, trouble and difficulties. The Bible doesn’t tell. But he prayed to God and asked God to bless him and expand his territories. The Bible actually confirms that God did answer his prayers.
God can take your nothing and change them into something. Your life might be full of a lot of difficulties. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And this light is God.
He is the All Powerful God and there is nothing impossible for Him to do. God can take what is considered nothing, useless and not worth any attention. And turn it into a very successful and brilliant story.
1. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2. The earth was barren, with no form of life. It was under a roaring ocean covered with darkness. But the spirit of God was moving over the water.
3. God said,” I command the light to shine”. And the light started shining.
4. God looked at the light and saw it was good.
God made this useful world we now live in from something that was useless. It was without shape or form but he made it a home for his people. He also liked it. As he said it was good.
God has the power to change all the bad things in your life into good things. If he could change a formless earth into a valuable earth. How much more can he do for you. For whom He sent His only Son to die for. So that he could save you from your sins and give you eternal life.
Just ensure, you pray to God and wait for what you want to happen. And like for Jabez, he will answer.
Today I will talk about one of the parables of Jesus.
One day a farmer went to plant on his farm. He preferred to use the broadcast method of farming or the scattering method. Some of the seeds he scattered fell along the road. Unfortunately, the seeds were eaten by the birds.
Other seeds fell among the rocks. These seeds were fortunate as they were able to grow. But they dried up very quickly. They dried up because the soil among the rocks wasn’t deep.
More seeds fell among the thorn bushes. When the thorn bushes grew up, they choked up the plants. According to science, they were competing for the same resources as the plants. These resources are such as water, sunlight and minerals. Hence they end up choking the plants.
A few of the remaining seeds fell on good soil. These were the most fruitful seeds that the farmer planted. They were able to produce a bountiful harvest. Much more than the farmer had planted. They produced a hundred or sixty or thirty times more than what they planted.
The disciples didn’t understand what this parable meant and they decided to ask Jesus about it.
Jesus explained the meaning. The farmer represents God while the seeds represent his word. The farm represents people’s hearts. The different types of places the seeds fell on, represent the different conditions of people’s hearts. These are the hearts of the people who hear the word of God.
Let’s start with the seeds that fell along the path but were eaten by the birds. These are people who hear God’s word and don’t understand it. Then because they don’t understand , they easily forget it. As the devil comes and snatches the message from their hearts.
The seeds that fell on rocky ground but later dried up because the soil wasn’t too deep. These are the people who when they hear the word of God, they gladly receive it and accept it. But since hard times are part of life. When they get to the hard times in life, they forget God and give up. Or when the word of God gets them in trouble, they give it up easily.
The seeds that fell among the thorns and were later choked up. They represent the people who hear the message of God and accept it. But later the worries of the needs of life and the lies about getting rich leads them away from God. Hence they never think about God anymore.
Finally, the seeds that fell on good ground and produced a good harvest. These are people who hear the word of God and understand it. They persevere through the hard times and use God’s message to survive the lies of the world. And eventually, they get to receive God’s rewards. Which leads them to do much more.
I think this parable teaches that it is not easy being a Christian. We all have to live this life and achieve what we need to. So let’s use God’s word to go through the hard times and the worrying times in life.
Let’s use it to undo the lies we are told by the world. Because after all is said and done, with God’s word it gets happier in the end.
You must have heard this one. In this case, it is between one bright student and a teacher.
Student: How do you put an elephant in a fridge.
Teacher: No you can’t fit an elephant in a fridge!!!
Student: Just open the door, put in the elephant. Then close the door.
Student: How do you put a giraffe in a fridge?
Teacher: Open door, put the giraffe in, close the door.
Student: No…. first, open the door. Then, take the elephant out. Put the giraffe in. Close the door.
This is a question and answer session by a student and a teacher. The concept is a bright student asks the teacher a question. And the teacher answers.
In a classroom set up, it is the same or vice versa. A student asks a question. The teacher answers. Or the teacher asks a question and the student answers.
Next, after the question and answer session. The teacher will give a particular assignment. The teacher expects the student to do his/her research to come up with the answers. The student will definitely look for books where he or she can find the answers to the given assignment. If she or he can’t find the answers to the assignment and hasn’t yet understood the concept. He or she will go to a fellow classmate or the teacher to get help on how to do the assignment.
Hopefully, the student will have understood the assignment after a good explanation on how to do it from a friend or the teacher. And then he or she can complete his or her assignment. A long search… but he or she found what he or she wanted.
If the student comes to class and finds the teacher in. He will knock on the door and will be told to come in and sit in for his or her lesson.
Matthew 7:7-8…..Ask and you will receive. Search and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened for you.
8. Everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. And the door will be opened for everyone who knocks.
Jesus said these words. He was explaining how our God works. Since he knew God and He was sent to teach us about Him. He acted as a teacher of God’s word.
He explained that when we asked God for something, we should expect to receive it. When we search for something on this earth, whether it is our dreams, goals and ambitions. Our everyday needs, we should expect to find them.
When we knock on a door for a particular opportunity, we should ask God. And he will help us to find it. That is if it’s good for us. He will give it to us.
So if you need something today. Ask God and expect an answer. He will answer you when the time is right. He is all-knowing. He will definitely answer.
Welcome to my first blog in marketing!!!🥳🥳🥳 This is my eighth blog.
Cinderella is a fascinating story. It is a story that can clearly explain what marketing is to a business. I know you think this is crazy. This is a children’s story. How does it relate to the serious world of business? But just read on. You’ll get the point.
Prince charming needs a wife. His father, the King messages the whole kingdom inviting all the maidens to a ball. The ball brings no success to the quest of the prince finding a wife. All they have is a glass slipper of a beautiful maiden, who is a potential candidate for a wife.
What is their next strategy? It is… use the glass slipper to find this beautiful young girl. The prince goes door to door allowing each girl who came to the bouquet to try on the glass slipper.
If the shoe fits… Hopefully, the prince will have found the wife of his dreams. And they should live happily ever after. You definitely know this story and you have read it a dozen times when you were young.
So where is the marketing concept in this children’s book? Well…let’s start by defining marketing.
Marketing refers to the activities a business or a company undertakes to promote the buying or selling of their products or services. It will include advertising, selling and delivering products to consumers or other businesses. This is according to Investopedia.
Now to Cinderella. The King succeeded at his quest of finding his son a wife. He did this by making sure that everyone in his kingdom was aware of his intentions. If he just sat down and wistfully thought he needed a wife for his son and did nothing. Let’s just say he would be building castles in the air. He let his kingdom know his need and he eventually got what he wanted.
Okay…., the king is not a business and the kingdom is not a market. But you can try and relate this to business. The king told of his need and it worked.
This is the same for any kind of business. Having the best products in the market doesn’t guarantee you that all your products will fly off the shelf at a supersonic speed. I know any marketer worth their salt can’t guarantee any business owner this.
Even if you are the only one who can produce this particular type of product. And everyone needs it. If the world doesn’t know you produce or sell this product. Then you are as good as not having this product.
This is where marketing comes in to save the day. With just a little bit or even larger bits of marketing. It will certainly make a huge difference to your business.
I am going to convince you why marketing your business is very important. Ahead are five of the major reasons why it is important you market your business. Here we go…
1.Marketing sells your products.
You have done everything that deals with coming up with the right product. Now it’s time for you to reap the fruits of your hard work and sell this product.
In one way or another you have to let your targeted customer know that you have the product they need. You have to advertise your business.
Advertising your business would simply mean making your customer know that you have a particular product they need or want. And encouraging them to come and buy it.
Whether it’s as simple as writing the name of your shop or as complicated as placing an advertisement on television or the internet. Allowing your customers to know about your product will attract them to your business. This will ensure you the sale of your products.
According to mayple.com the average ROI on Google ads is 200%. This means that every $1 spent on a Google ad. It will get an average return of $2. This is definitely a good thing for your budget. It means sales!!!
2. Marketing helps you to maintain a relationship with your customer.
You need your customer to come today, tomorrow, again and again and again. Something needs to persuade your customer. He or she needs to be reminded of the value of your products and services. And why they should come back again to get the same value they got before or a better value.
And this is where marketing your business comes in. Whether it’s placing an advertisement on the media or giving an offer. Better, reducing the price by a certain percentage. Or even offering the product for free for a particular period of time. All these strategies are in one way or another supposed to engage the customer. And persuade him or her to buy the same product repeatedly.
Outgrowco.medium.com customer engagement statistics in 2020 seem to prove this point. It’s statistics state that 61% of customers believe that surprise gifts and offers are the best way to engage customers.
These gifts will definitely keep them coming back!!
3. Marketing builds a reputation for your business.
Your customer can be convinced of the goodness of your business to keep buying from you. All he or she needs to believe is you are up to some good. And you do add value to them or their communities, country or even the world.
When a customer or two believe this. They easily spread the good news of your business. This builds the reputation of your business which may eventually lead to the increase of your sales. This reputation is further enhanced by different marketing activities that you undertake to build more on your reputation.Whether it’s placing an advert on any media, creating an email campaign, building a website for your business with an engaging copy that reflects the business unique brand voice.
All these and other marketing activities enhance the trust and credibility of your business. Hence building the reputation of your business.
Oberlo.com states that a good email marketing campaign will deliver good returns on your marketing investment. It says that for every dollar spent on email marketing, you can expect an average return $ 42( DMA 2019).
So build your image while you are marketing. It is worth it.
4. Marketing helps you to find customers for your products or services.
One of the nagging or worrying questions in the mind of many new business owners is whether they will find any customers to buy their products or consume their services. But the cure to this worry should be to market their products and services.
Again to the definition of marketing. It refers to the activities a company or a business undertakes to promote the buying or selling of a service. Hence whether they create awareness of their products through social media marketing, place an advert on television, shout the prices of your products or play a voice recording of you advertising your products in the market.
All these creative ways will create awareness of the existence of your product. Thus new customers can eventually be attracted to your business.
5. Marketing leads to the growth of your business.
As a business, you have maintained a specific target market for a while. But now you want to expand and conquer new ones. Marketing is the solution for you. When you strategically market your products through new channels from the ones you are used to. The new channels can be digital marketing or any other.
If digital marketing, there are strategies such as social media marketing, email marketing content, SEO etc. Any of these strategies can help you capture new audiences and may lead you to acquiring new markets.
These strategies are very good as they allow you to get feedback from your customers. You can use these feedback to better your services or develop new products. This can lead to attracting new or more customers. This will eventually lead to the growth of your business.
Those are the major five reasons why it is critical for you to market your business. I hope you are now convinced that marketingvmarketing important for your business.
Love is in the air. Valentine’s day is a few days away. A day we all want to show our loved ones that we do appreciate them for all that they do for us. And for being in our lives. For being caring and being concerned about us.
God is also our loved one. He also loves and cares about us. He showed His love to us by sending His only Son to die for our sins. Jesus, His only Son, was crucified. So that God could save us from our sins. How much more love can God show us more than this?
1 John 4:8 says, whoever doesn’t know love doesn’t know God, because God is Love.
God is concerned about our lives. What we do daily. Where our lives are headed. What our lives will be both now and in the future.
I love Psalms 136. It reminds me of God’s love and how it will never fail. I am going to quote 14 verses of it. It’s self-explanatory. I hope it shows you that there is some else in this life whose love never fails. And He truly cares about you.
Just because you don’t see Him. Doesn’t mean that He isn’t there. His works and His word speak for Him. They tell us He loves and cares too much about us.
Psalms 136: God’s Love Never Fails.
1. Praise the Lord God. He is good. God’s love never fails.
2. Praise the God of all gods. God’s love never fails.
3. Praise the Lord of lords. God’s love never fails.
4. Only God works great miracles. God’s love never fails.
5. With wisdom, He made the sky. God’s love never fails.
6. TheLord stretched the earth over the ocean. God’s love never fails.
7. He made the lights in the sky. God’s love never fails.
8. He lets the sun rule each day. God’s love never fails.
9. He lets the moon and the stars rule each night. God’s love never fails.
10. God struck down the first borns in every Egyptian family. God’s love never fails.
11. He rescued Israel from Egypt. God’s love never fails.
12. God used His great strength and His powerful arm. God’s love never fails.
13. He split the Red Sea apart. God’s love never fails.
14. The Lord brought Israel safely through the sea. God’s love never fails.
Truly, our God is concerned about us. And His Love never fails. He can go to great lengths to ensure we are okay. Just look at the earth He created for us. It has everything we need. Everything carefully thought of and planned.
He also let His only Son go through so much pain so that we can be able to relate closely to Him.
So as we celebrate and appreciate those who are our loved ones this weekend. Let’s also remember to appreciate our God. Because God’s love never fails.
One day the sun never rose. It was dark the whole day. The crickets were chirping the whole day or is it the whole night. Could we say it was a good day or a good night…I don’t know. But it was the day or night people never left their beds. For the day or night was pitch black. It was the day the whole world lived to remember.
Okay….., this is the storyline of a movie that hasn’t been shot yet. And maybe it will. Or it may end up being the beginning and the end of this story. Or maybe just end up where it began…in my mind🤔. This is madness… you may agree with me🙄.
And this is why you may agree with me. There is nothing as dependable as the rising and the setting of the sun. The sun always rises in the morning and sets in the evening. It has never changed in the six thousand years or even if it’s millions of years we have been on this planet.
Yes…, that big yellow ball in the sky that gives us the light we need. Always majestically climbs up the sky in the morning. And always descends the sky every evening. It never disappoints.
I think it is the one thing that is very dependable on this planet. It provides the light we need and at the right time.
The sun gives us the light needed for photosynthesis. Which means the sun helps the plants to make their food. Then later we get to eat this food.
There is a whole lot of science about the benefits of the sun. But the one the thing we know for sure is that the sun will never disappoint.
Like the sun, this is also the same for our God. He too never disappoints. He is the one who made the sun.
And there isn’t even one single day that the Lord God forgot to set it. And it just remained there in the middle of the sky the whole day.
Nope….ever single day. The sun rises. And every single day the sunsets.
Proverbs 3:5…. With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not on your own judgement. Always let him lead you and he will clear the road for you.
Our God is dependable. So we should put our trust in him and allow him to guide our lives. I am sure he will guide us in the good paths of life.
Did you enjoy the stories of princesses when you were young?
Do you remember, Sleeping beauty, Rapunzel, Snow White and the seven dwarfs … etc.
One thing these stories all had in common; the main character was a beautiful young girl.
I wonder what the meaning of beautiful is? According to the internet dictionary, beautiful means pleasing the senses or mind aesthetically. The second meaning of beautiful is a very high standard or excellent.
So, when we relate the word ‘beautiful’ to a person, we definitely mean that one has physical qualities that give one great pleasure to look at. This is for a woman. Obviously, when we talk about a man we say handsome.
Have you ever heard someone say, he or she has a beautiful soul? I will take the word ‘soul’ and replace it with ‘spirit’. Then I will ask you, have you ever heard someone say that he or she has a beautiful spirit?
I can make this even better. I will replace the word ‘spirit’ with ‘attitude’.
Attitude; according to the internet dictionary, it means, a settled way of thinking. Simply, it is a way of feeling or acting towards a person, thing or a situation. Then my question is, have you ever heard of a beautiful attitude?
The Bible talks about ‘Beatitudes’. My translation of this is ‘beautiful attitudes’. These are the attitudes in the Bible that God actually gives a blessing for each one of them.
These are character traits of a person that pleases God or they get God’s attention.
Let’s take a look at each and their blessing.
God blesses those who depend on Him only as they belong to the kingdom of Heaven. These are those who are poor in spirit.
God blesses those who grieve as they will find comfort. These are the people who mourn.
God blesses those who are humble as the earth will belong to them. These are the meek.
God blesses those who want to obey Him more than they want to eat or drink. They will be given them what they want. Another translation says, they hunger and thirst for righteousness.
God blesses those who are merciful as they will be treated with mercy.
God blesses those whose hearts are pure. These are those people who are pure in spirit. Their blessing: they will see God.
God blesses those people who make peace. These are the peacemakers. Jesus says that they will be called children of God.
God blesses those who are treated badly for doing right. Another translation is those who are persecuted for righteousness. Jesus said they belong to the kingdom of Heaven.
These are what I call the ‘ Beautiful Attitudes’. According to the Bible, they are the ‘Beatitudes‘. Each one of them has a blessing attached to it. It means God honours these people with these character traits so much that he decides to bless them.
Which one is your beautiful attitude ‘Beatitude’? Keep it and God will bless you for it.
