Welcome to my sixteen blog !!!🙂
Have you ever shepherded? Well…if you have I guess this then would be your experience.
You would have to wake up early in the morning and take out your herd to graze. You would definitely need to choose where there is plenty of grass for all the animals to graze. Most preferably, where there is a river if you live near one. This would be so that the animals can have something to drink as they feed.
You would watch over them carefully and protect them from any danger. Maybe you would probably take a dog along with you. The dog would help in protecting the animals from any danger.
Each animal would be very important to you. This would be in terms of the resources they provide whether it’s their skin, milk or meat. Hence you would do anything to protect this income of yours.
The animals are your money and maybe the only source of income. Thus you are going to ensure that they are well fed and well protected. So that they bring you maximum income.
When the day is done, you will take them home. And you will keep them in their clean house. Until the next day when you will repeat the process again.
Jesus uses this concept of shepherding to explain what he is to a Christian. He was born during the times when shepherding was one of the major activities. And maybe He did it when He was young. Hence he used it to explain the Jesus and Christian relationship.
The main purpose of the shepherd is to ensure the flock is well fed and protected. He watches over them and ensures no harm comes to them.
This is what King David said about God.
Psalms 23: 1-3:
1. Lord, are my shepherd. I will never be in need.
2. You let me rest in fields of green grass. You lead me to streams of peaceful waters.
3. and you refresh my life.
4. I may walk through a valley as dark as death, but I won’t be afraid. You are with me and your shepherd’s rod makes me feel safe.
Jesus is our shepherd. Our guide through life. He will guide us to the place where there are plenty of good things. And a lot of happiness for us. Where it is peaceful and God provides for us anything we need.
He will also watch over us when we go through hard moments in our lives. Moments we don’t know what to do. And maybe you have no one to turn to. God is still there watching over us to ensure we are safe and no harm comes to us.
Trust God to watch over you and to provide for you. This is His main job…I mean He created you. So he will watch over you, protect you and provide for you.
